Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk,
O LORD, in the light of Your countenance.  In Your name they
rejoice all day long, And in Your righteousness they are
exalted."  (Ps 89:15-16) Do join our Peace Tour as we bring the Lords Crusades to Africa, Asia,India,Europe.

Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk,
O LORD, in the light of Your countenance. In Your name they
rejoice all day long, And in Your righteousness they are
   exalted." (Ps 89:15-16)

Oh, but many Christians enter the worship of our Creator and Savior
with the enthusiasm and vigor of those filling their income tax
   returns on April 14th!

2. Brethren, this should not be! And if it is...
   a. We need to pray the prayer of David: "Restore to me the joy of
      Your salvation..." - Ps 51:12
   b. We need to allow the Word of God to do its work: "Your words were
found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and
rejoicing of my heart; for I am called by your name, O Lord God
      of hosts." - Jer 15:16

"A man walks into a worship assembly. The preacher is
eloquently expressing God's love for us, and the man says
'Amen!' That draws a few stares and whispers of 'Who is
that?' The preacher goes on to state that Jesus died for
our sins so that we can go to heaven and the man says
'Alleluia.' Again more stares and questions. Finally, the
preacher states that through Jesus we may have eternal life,
and the man says 'Praise the Lord!'

Everyone is looking now, and one fellow goes over to the
newcomer to inform him, 'We don't praise the Lord here.'"

   C. THERE CAN BE BOTH JOY AND ORDERLY WORSHIP!
      1. There is room for "Amens" and "Praise the Lord!" when offered
with sincerity and in keeping with what is said
      2. In reacting to one extreme, let's not go to the other and take
away the joy of being a Christian!
         a. "Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in the
Lord your God." - Joel 2:23
         b. "I was glad when they said to me, 'Let us go into the house
of the Lord.'" - Ps 122:1
         c. "Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!"
            - Php 4:4
         d. "...singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord"
            - Ep 5:19

The Judgment Of Edom, from the OT Book, Obadiah. Brings this era and lesson into today's
world of Revelation. Do join us for our Peace Tour as we bring the Lords Crusades to Africa, Asia,India, Europe. www.bryanthewitt.com

is name means "Servant of Yahweh (Jehovah)", and was quite
   common...
   a. Thirteen different people are called by this name in the Old
      Testament
   b. One Jewish tradition identifies him as the one who was Ahab's
      steward
      1) Who hid 100 prophets from Jezebel, Ahab's wife - 1Ki 18:3-4
      2) Who feared the Lord from his youth - 1Ki 18:12
   c. He may have also been...
      1) The Obadiah sent by Jehoshaphat to teach the law in Judah
         - 2Ch 17:7
      2) The Obadiah who was one of the overseers in repairing the
         temple under Josiah - 2Ch 34:12
-- Whoever this Obadiah was, his message contains valuable lessons
      for us today

[Before looking at the book itself, let's consider some...]

I. BACKGROUND INFORMATION

   A. THE DATE...
      1. Two dates are often proposed: 845 B.C. and 586 B.C.
      2. The prophet refers to an attack on Jerusalem; commentators
         offer these two possibilities:
         a. The days of Jehoram (848-844 B.C.), when Philistines and
            Arabians attacked the city - 2Ch 21:8-10,16-17
         b. The destruction of Jerusalem by the Babylonians (586 B.C.)
      3. The internal evidence appears to support the early date of
         845 B.C. (Keil, Hailey)
         a. The language of Obadiah is much different from Jeremiah
         b. There is no mention of the destruction of the temple, the
deportation to Babylon, the remnant who went to Egypt
-- I accept the early date, that it was around 845 B.C.

   B. THE MESSAGE...
      1. The fall of Edom
         a. Because of its pride
         b. And its cruelty against Israel, their cousins
      2. The exaltation of Zion
         a. When Seir, the Edomite counterpart of Zion, will be cast
            down
         b. The rescued of Israel will be in Zion, for in it the
            redeemed shall be found
-- For this reason I have subtitled this lesson as "The Judgment
         Of Edom"

   C. THE HISTORY OF EDOM...
      1. The people of Edom descended from Esau, Jacob's twin brother
      2. There was sibling rivalry between Edom and Israel, found first
         in Esau and Jacob
         a. The twins struggled in their mother's womb - Gen 25:22-26
         b. Esau sold his birthright to Jacob - Gen 25:27-34
         c. Jacob stole Esau's blessing as the firstborn - Gen 27
      3. While Jacob and Esau eventually reconciled (Gen 32-33), their
descendants were often at odds with one another
         a. In the Exodus, Edom refused Israel passage through their
            land - Num 20:14-21
         b. Edom was finally subjected by David - 2Sa 8:13-14
         c. During the reign of Jehoram, Edom revolted - 2Ki 8:20-22
      4. Located south of the Dead Sea, they built their cities in the
         cliffs and thought themselves impregnable
      5. After the prophecy of Obadiah...
         a. The Edomites were overcome by the Nabataeans, forced to
            settle south of Judah
         b. Around 100 B.C., they were conquered by John Hyrcanus of
            the Maccabees
            1) Who forced many of them to be circumcised and accept the
               Law
            2) As such, many became nominal Jewish proselytes (Herod
               the Great was one)
         c. By 100 A.D., Edom as a race and nation had become lost to
            history

Bryant Hewitt shares from the Book of Zephaniah, of the topic Judgment To Blessings. Do join Our Peace Tour as we bring the Lords Crusades to Africa, Asia, India, Europe.www.bryanthewitt.com

The prophet is Zephaniah, whose name means "Jehovah Hides"
   a. Concerning the MAN
      1) King Hezekiah was his great-great-grandfather - Zeph 1:1
      2) This has prompted some to call him "the royal prophet"
      3) He was contemporary with Jeremiah, as were Nahum and Habakkuk
   b. Concerning his MESSAGE
      1) Zephaniah prophesied in the days of Josiah, king of Judah
         a) Josiah ruled from 640-609 B.C.
         b) He was a good king, a great reformer - 2Ch 34:1-3,29-33;
            35:1-19
         c) Josiah's reforms were short-lived, however, and the nation
            soon apostasized after his death
      2) Zephaniah proclaimed the coming "day of the Lord" - cf. Zeph
         1:7,14-16
         a) So vivid are his descriptions that George Adam Smith wrote:
"No hotter book lies in all the Old Testament."
         b) And yet it ends on an encouraging note concerning the
            future

Bryant Hewitt brings Part 2 of this powerful lesson of Malachi. They are certainly profitable for instruction in righteousness     - cf. 2Ti 3:16-17 Do join our Peace Tour as we bring the Lords Crusades to Africa, Asia, India, Europe. www.bryanthewitt.com - Captured Live on Ustream at http://www.ustream.tv/channel/the-hewitt-channel

They are certainly profitable for instruction in righteousness
     - cf. 2Ti 3:16-17

1. As with most prophets, Malachi had a message for both the present
   and the future...
   a. Exhorting the people to look at themselves, how they were guilty
      of:
      1) Doubting God's love
      2) Dishonoring God's name
      3) Profaning God's covenant
      4) Trying God's patience
      5) Forsaking God's ordinances
      6) Despising God's service
-- Note: These points were adapted from Wiersbe's "Be Amazed"
         commentary
   b. Encouraging the people to look forward to the coming of:
      1) God's Messenger (John), who would come in the spirit of Elijah
and prepare people for the coming of the Lord
      2) The Messenger of the covenant (Jesus), who come to refine and
purify those willing to repent, and bring judgment on those
who do not fear the Lord

2. It is encouraging to note that some evidently took Malachi's message
   to heart - Mal 3:16-18
   a. Whom the Lord would claim as His
   b. Whom the Lord would make His "jewels"
   c. Whom the Lord would spare as a man spares His own son who serves
      him

Shine As Lights. Bryant Hewitt Message
http://www.bryanthewitt.com/

I. BY WORKING OUT OUR OWN SALVATION FIRST! (12a)

   A. AS JESUS PUT IT, "FIRST REMOVE THE PLANK FROM YOUR OWN EYE" - Mt
      7:1-6
      1. This passage, often misused to prevent any proper judging, is
emphasizing the importance of "getting your own act together
         first"
      2. Notice, that once you have "removed the plank", you can then
(and should) be used to "remove the speck" in another's eye

   B. IF WE ARE NOT CAREFUL, WE MAY LOSE OUR SALVATION IN THE WAY WE
      REACT TO OTHERS!
      1. Many people go about trying to change society for the better,
using methods that will keep themselves out of the kingdom of
         God! - cf. Ga 5:19-21
      2. Paul saw the need to be very careful when trying to save others
         - cf. 1Co 9:27

[How tragic it would be, if when we go around preaching to others, do
it such a way as to "disqualify" ourselves!

We can be more careful, and "shine as lights in the world", if we do
so...]

II. WITH "FEAR AND TREMBLING" (12b)

   A. THE WORD "FEAR" IN CONNECTION WITH GOD IS NOT POPULAR TODAY...
      1. Perhaps a reaction to the "hell, fire and brimstone" preaching
         of another generation
      2. But could it be that we have gone to the other extreme?
         a. Have we diluted the concept of the "fear of the Lord" by our
            definitions?
         b. To the point there is no place for "trembling" in our
            definition of fear?
      3. Jesus certainly taught the "fear of the Lord" - Mt 10:28

   B. THE NEED TO HAVE PROPER "FEAR AND TREMBLING"...
      1. Without it, it is unlikely we will seriously make the effort to
         "work out our own salvation"
      2. Could this be a reason there is so much apathy and
         fruitlessness in the church today?

[There may be another reason for such fruitlessness; and that is, if we
don't "shine as lights in the world"...]

III. BY LETTING GOD WORK IN US (13)

   A. TO SUCCEED AS "LIGHTS IN THE WORLD"...
      1. It will be essential to let God do His work, something He is
able to do beyond our ability to comprehend - Ep 3:20-21
      2. He is there "working in you"! - cf. Php 1:6
      3. How? Both...
         a. To "will" - helping us in our motivation
         b. To "do" - helping us in our ability

   B. BUT IF WE ARE NOT CAREFUL, WE CAN EASILY...
      1. Quench God's efforts to work in us
      2. Prevent God from using us altogether (at least for doing things
         for our own good)!

[Later, in another lesson, we shall examine how God is at work in us,
and what we can do to promote such activity on His part.

Another important element in our "shining as lights" is that we go
about our task...]

IV. WITHOUT MURMURING AND DISPUTING (14)

   A. BY MAINTAINING A POSITIVE ATTITUDE...
      1. Living in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation can
easily get us down, where we can become constant complainers
      2. But allowing that to happen will render us less effective
      3. And as with Israel, "murmuring" can lead to our own downfall
         - 1Co 10:10-12

1. With the aid of the prophetic ministries of Haggai and Zechariah...
   a. The temple was rebuilt - Ezra 5:1-2; 6:14-16
   b. What had begun in 536 B.C. was finally finished in 516 B.C.

2. In 458 B.C., another group of exiles returned to Jerusalem, led by
   Ezra...
   a. A priest
   b. His work was to teach the people the word of God - Ezra 7:10

3. About 444 B.C., a third group of exiles returned led by Nehemiah...
   a. Who became governor
   b. Under his leadership, the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt
      (Neh 1-6)
   c. Together with Ezra, he led the people to a great revival (Neh
      7-13)

4. Contemporary with Ezra and Nehemiah was another prophet, Malachi...
   a. His name means "My Messenger"
      1) Certainly Malachi was a messenger of God
      2) But he also spoke of God's messengers to come - Mal 3:1
   b. Like Ezra the priest...
      1) Malachi attacked the spiritual and moral decay that was
         prevalent
      2) Among both priests and people
   c. In so doing, he resorted to a new style of teaching
      1) Known as the didactic-dialectic method of speaking
      2) I.e., making a charge, raising potential objections, and then
         refuting them
      3) Which later became common in Jewish schools and synagogues

Testimony of Anita Hewitt after her stroke, stomped on the Head of Satan in her hospital bed Do join us on our Peace Tour as we bring the Lords Crusades to Asia, Africa, India, Europe. www.bryanthewitt.com

Evangelist  Anita Hewitt wife of  Prophet Bryant Hewitt suffered a Stroke, this past Tuesday night as she was just about to Watch 1st Lady Obama speak for her husband at the DNC.
Her Husband was preparing her dinner, shortly after there 6pm PDT service. Where Mrs Hewitt's words were all bumbled and could not be understood,.

Her Husband called 911 and her Vitals were 177/133 in the ambulance. During the first night in the hospital calls were made, test from MRI's , Cat Scans Ultra sounds were in the process. As she moved into the first morning, Church walked into the room. With the witness one of the staff members who was the speech pathologist . From 10 am on Wednesday, to the afternoon hours. God brought this series of Afflictions to the Hewitt's so all within the ranks of the hospital could bear witness to the glory of God. What once was a blurred speech, without one word being able to be understood. All came back to a slow clarity in Gods time.

Anita Hewitt had a TIA, a minor stroke, that can last from 1- 3 days. Yet, this is not a joke that should not be taken lightly. Now the signs of a stroke, have a support group to be on your ready. And talk and talk, and read out loud, if this is to happen to you or your loved ones. Mrs Hewitt who was already on a medical leave due to a surgery, will be back to preaching at the end of September, slowly at Gods Speed. Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) Overview The control centers of the brain The brain controls how our body functions, how we think, how we see, how we talk, and how we move. The signals to and from the brain are transmitted through the spinal cord to the rest of the body. The right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, and the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body. This includes movement and sensation. Speech centers usually are located in the Broca's area on the left side of the brain. Vision is controlled by the back of the brain in the occipital lobes. The carotid arteries provide the majority of the blood supply to these parts of the brain (known as the anterior circulation). Balance and coordination are controlled by the cerebellum, or the base of the brain, and its blood supply comes from the vertebral arteries located in the bony canals in the back of the vertebral column (referred to as the posterior circulation). When an area of the brain loses its blood supply it stops working and the part of the body it controls also stops working. This is what happens with a stroke or CVA (cerebrovascular accident). When the brain loses blood supply, it tries to restore blood flow. If blood supply is restored, function may return to the affected brain cells, permitting return of function to the affected body part. This is what happens with a TIA (transient ischemic attack). Some may consider this a mini-stroke, however, in reality, it is a stroke that has resolved or has improved functionality in the affected body part. By definition, a TIA resolves within 24 hours, but most TIA symptoms resolve within a few minutes. TIAs are often warning signs of a future stroke. The risk of a stroke increases dramatically in the days after a transient ischemic attack, and the TIA may offer an opportunity to find a cause or minimize the risk to prevent the permanent neurologic damage that results because of a stroke.

If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity; 10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday: 11 And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. 2. He warned that few will find the way that leads to life - Mt 7:
         13-14
      3. Even many religious people who believe in Him will find
         themselves lost - Mt 7:21-23
-- Did Jesus not teach that most, even the religious, will be
         lost?

   B. IN HIS PARABLES...
      1. Warning that many in His kingdom will be lost - Mt 13:41-43
      2. Speaking of the separation of the wicked from the just - Mt 13:
         49-50
-- Did Jesus not teach even many in His kingdom will be lost?

   C. IN HIS GREAT COMMISSION...
      1. Commanding His apostles to preach of salvation and condemnation
         - Mk 16:15-16
      2. Requiring that repentance be preached in His name to all
         nations - Lk 24:46-47
-- Why give such a charge, unless Jesus believed in "The Lostness
         Of The Lost"?

Matthew 6:26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Acts 17:26-28 And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’

Romans 11:36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

Philippians 4:10,11 I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.

1 Timothy 6:17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

A Christian’s Attitude

Psalms 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.

Psalms 46:1-3 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

Matthew 5:42-45 Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you. “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,  so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. (Jesus’ words)

Genesis 17:5 No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.
Genesis 17:15 And God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name.
Genesis 32:28 Then he said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
Genesis 41:45 And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphenath-paneah. And he gave him in marriage Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On. So Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.
Isaiah 62:2  The nations shall see your righteousness, and all the kings your glory, and you shall be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will give.

Exodus 12:40-42 The time that the people of Israel lived in Egypt was 430 years. At the end of 430 years, on that very day, all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt. It was a night of watching by the LORD, to bring them out of the land of Egypt; so this same night is a night of watching kept to the LORD by all the people of Israel throughout their generations.
Ezekiel 12:3 As for you, son of man, prepare for yourself an exile’s baggage, and go into exile by day in their sight. You shall go like an exile from your place to another place in their sight. Perhaps they will understand, though they are a rebellious house.
Acts 8:26 Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is a desert place

1. In 1Pe 3:15, we find Peter giving the following command:

"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to
give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that
is in you, with meekness and fear;"

2. Here we learn that we are to always be ready to explain the basis of
   our hope...
   a. What reasons are there for the hope we have in Christ?
   b. We must be ready to provide such reasons!

3. In this lesson, I wish to share with you a reason for MY hope...
   a. There are many reasons I could give, for the evidences for my
      faith are many
   b. But this is where I would begin if I were called upon to give a
      reason for my hope

4. In sharing with you a reason for my hope, perhaps I can...
   a. Strengthen and confirm the hope of my fellow Christians
   b. Create faith and hope in the hearts of some who may not yet be
      Christians

In Ec 5:10-16, Solomon described the problem with earthly
   treasures...
   a. Money and abundance do not truly satisfy
   b. The abundance of the rich prevent good sleep, and often hurts the
      owner
   c. Riches perish through misfortune, and cannot be taken with us when
      we die

2. In Mt 6:19-21, Jesus commands us to lay up treasure not on earth, but
   in heaven...
   a. Likely a Hebrew idiom, in which a contrast is made for the sake of
      emphasis - cf. Jn 6:27
   b. Not that it is wrong have earthly treasures per se, but our focus
should be on laying up treasure in heaven

[Why should our focus be on laying up treasure in heaven? Also, how do
we lay up treasure in heaven? In Mt 6:19-24, Jesus tells us...]

Just as Jesus knew He was never alone (Jn 16:32), so Paul
experienced the reassuring presence of God...
   a. At a time when others had forsaken him - 2Ti 4:16-17
   b. Which gave him hope for the future - 2Ti 4:18

2. As Christians, we are promised never to be left alone...
   a. "...and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
      - Mt 28:20
   b. "For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake
you.' So we may boldly say: 'The Lord is my helper; I will not
fear. What can man do to me?'" - He 13:5-6

Tent of Discontent. Bryant Hewitt

1. "All the world lives in two tents--content and discontent."
   a. Which "tent" do you live in?
   b. Paul, as a disciple of Jesus, lived in a constant state of
      contentment
   c. A contentment learned and enjoyed through his relationship with
      God through Jesus Christ

2. He encourages us to follow his example, if we desire to have the
same relationship with God - cf. Php 4:9
   a. To learn of his "ways in Christ" which he taught in every church
      - 1Co 4:16-17
   b. Such "ways" certainly included those taught by our Lord Himself!

If we desire to overcome discontent, then let's be inspired by the
example of Paul who wrote:

"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live,
but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the
flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave
   Himself for me. (Ga 2:20)

Psalm 91

King James Version (KJV)
91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Fear imprisons, faith liberates; fear paralyzes, faith empowers;
   fear disheartens, faith encourages; fear sickens, faith heals;
fear makes useless, faith makes serviceable_and, most of all,
fear puts hopelessness at the heart of life, while faith rejoices
   in its God."

Feed your faith, and your fears will starve to death."
   b. "Fear knocked at the door. Faith answered. No one was there."
   c. "Fear and faith cannot keep house together; when one enters, the
      other departs."
