Bryant Hewitt Shares Judges 10;14-17
Judges 10:14 - 10:17
Judges Chapter 10
14 Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation.
15 And the children of Israel said unto the LORD, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; deliver us only, we pray thee, this day.
16 And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the LORD: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.
17 Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpeh.
Bryant Hewitt lifts up Psalm 34;15
Psalm 34:15 (KJV)
The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
How comforting it is Father, to know that You watch over me. May I live confidently in a sense of Your presence....~Amen~

Hand Exercises For Seniors And The Elderly
Hand exercises for seniors and the elderly are a wonderful component to your daily stretching routine.
Our hands are usually the first thing we notice in the morning that has stiffened up overnight.
Hand exercises like the hand stretch below will help loosen up the fingers and palm. See the flexibility page for more tips and information on flexibility.
A good idea for warming up your hands is to use a microwave hot pack before stretching.
This will increase the temperature of the tissues under the skin including ligaments and tendons, which will make them much more elastic.
Try it and see how much further you can open and close your hand.
Hand Stretch
Purpose of this exercise
•Increase the flexibility and range of motion of your hand and fingers.
•Warms up your hand to prepare for the activity of the day.
How to do it:
Hand Stretch start
Hand Stretch end

•Hold your hands out in front with palms down.
Step 2
•Open and close the hand, spreading the fingers apart.
•Repeat 10 times.
Breathing:
•Continue breathing normally, in through the nose and out through the mouth.
Tips:
•Do not strain, simply open and close your hand.
•If your shoulders get tired holding your hands up, drop them down to your lap.

"Elderly and senior strength training exercise?"
That is the response I get when I tell people I use elderly strength training for seniors, men and women in their 50's to 90's.
Yes, they can be frail and have low energy reserves but most respond well to moderate sessions of weight training.
Numerous studies have shown that strength training for seniors done regularly not only builds up bone and muscle but counteracts the weakness and frailty that usually comes with aging.
Exercising your muscles will increase not only your muscular strength but also your muscular endurance which is the ability to repeat a movement over and over again.
Start an elderly and seniors strength training program today!
Check with your doctor and ask if there are any precautions you should take.
Generally most seniors and elderly can safely begin a fitness program.

Elderly Flexibility Stretching Exercises for Seniors
Types of stretching
Generally when we speak of stretching exercises we are talking about either static or dynamic stretching.
Static stretching is the preferred method to create lasting lengthening of a muscle and surrounding tissue, which increases your available range of motion.
We also refer to static stretching as Low load prolonged stretch.
This is the application of a low load over a longer period of time.
To stretch in this manner, simply hold a position for 10 to 30 seconds or more.
Dynamic or oscillatory motions are used to increase available range of motion in a joint.
This can be used in addition to static stretching.
It is a form of stretching that is usually done after you are well warmed up and can tolerate a bouncy pull on your joints.
Static stretching is generally considered the safer choice.
Older adults and seniors can safely perform stretches
The great thing about stretching is that it can be fun and done almost anytime and anyplace.
My patients with upper body stiffness due to injury or surgery are encouraged to perform range of motion exercises with the affected body part at least three times per day.
• Stretching can greatly help back pain
• Stretching can improve your posture
• Stretching is beneficial for arthritis
Vibrams Five Fingers: Friend or Foe
Pros:
1. The foot will learn to due what it was naturally meant to do. With more than 200,000 nerve endings, 33 major muscles and 19 ligaments the foot sends messages to the brain to help strengthen these muscles and regain proper balance and alignment.
2. Promotes proper striking of the foot on the surfaces. Cushioned shoes tend to encourage heel striking while minimalist shoes allow for the weight to be distributed on the ball or mid-range of the foot.
3. Due to the “strike point” being near the front or mid part of the foot, it is suggested that less stress is put on the joints causing less injury. (Conclusion based on a study by Harvard University on 68 young, healthy runners of mixed gender. Participants were evaluated by a motion analysis machine while running in both shoes and barefoot. 54% average increase in the internal rotation torque of the hip, and a 36% increase in the bending forces of the knee when using running shoes).

Benefits Of Stretching For Seniors And The Elderly
Not only are strength and endurance important for maintaining independence as we age, flexibility of our muscles and tendons are necessary for most functional activities.
If our motion is restricted in any way, shortening develops which decreases the range of motion in our joints.
Benefits of stretching help improve the mobility of our "soft tissue" which includes muscle, skin and the connective tissue surrounding our muscles and joints.
It prepares us mentally for our activity and decreases the risk and/or severity of injury.
Shoulder Stretch
Purpose of this exercise
•Helps stretch our shoulder, scapula and supporting muscles and joints.
•Improves our reaching ability especially across the body.
How to do it:
Step 1
•Bring your left hand up onto your right shoulder.
•Support your elbow with your right hand.
Step 2
•Gently pull left elbow toward right shoulder.
•When a stretch is felt, hold for 10 to 15 seconds.
•Repeat with the other side.
•Gently pull right elbow toward left shoulder.
Breathing:
•Breathe normally in through the nose and out through the mouth..
Tips:
•Try to keep your elbow at shoulder height.
•Lift your ribs.
•Stretching should feel pleasant, stop if there is joint pain.
Take it up a notch:
•Keep your elbow straight when pulling it back toward your shoulder.
Neti Pot Use and Safety Tips
Neti pots often look like miniature tea pots and can be used to flush the nose to help sinus pressure. Water and a salt mixture are combined and then with some head tilting, the salt water goes up one nostril and back out the other.
Neti pots have been around for centuries and originated with the Ayurvedic and yoga medical tradition. A few recent stories have me re-thinking my neti pot and how I use it. Mine stays in the shower and gets used there so I don’t make a mess spraying water all over the bathroom.
Recently there have been so me pretty scary stories of people using tap water in their neti pot and ending up with more trouble than it was worth. One report is of a woman in Louisiana using tap water in her neti pot and ending up with an amoeba in her brain. She died shortly thereafter.
This isn’t typically a problem if the water is ingested as a drink because the digestive system protects the body by killing such organisms before they get absorbed into the blood stream. The nose doesn’t have the strong acid of the stomach to kill offending organisms.
A Healthy Menu For
Wednesday
For breakfast select one low-fat blueberry waffle, 2 tbsp. sugar-free syrup, ½ cup fresh raspberries and 1 cup nonfat milk. Enjoy coffee or tea sweetened with a sugar substitute, too. Your lunch meal includes 2 scrambled eggs, 1 oz. low fat cheese, 1 slice of toasted whole grain bread and 1 tsp. soft margarine and ½ cup fresh pineapple. For dinner, choose 3 oz. broiled salmon, ½ quinoa, ½ cup broccoli and cauliflower mix. Have 4 oz. low fat yogurt with ½ cup sliced strawberries for dessert.

3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
10 And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No.
6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
Acts 1:1-11
King James Version (KJV)
1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,
2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

John 21
King James Version (KJV)
21 After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.
2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
