Tips for Sufferers of Seasonal Allergies
Put down the chocolate shake and snack on some nuts
Try adding more anti-inflammatory foods, such as ground flaxseeds. Walnuts along with fish oil supplements are tremendous sources of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid which can stomp out inflammation in your nasal passages. Try to cut back on eating things like red meat, fried or processed foods, chocolate and a lot of dairy products that cause mucus. You may also want to try a number of homeopathic remedies that are available at most health food stores.
Don’t bring your pollen with you
One way to prevent bringing pollen into your home is to change your clothes almost immediately upon entering the house. Try keeping shoes at the door or in the garage. We may not see it, but pollen is easily trapped in clothing and in your hair. So, if possible try to change clothes and wash up more often. You should also try avoiding hanging laundry outdoors; this will prevent it from collecting airborne pollen.

So I Speak. Palm Sunday. Bryant Hewitt Message

John 12

King James Version (KJV)
12 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,
Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.
For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.
16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
17 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.
18 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.
19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.
20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him.
30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.
34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
38 That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?
39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,
40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
41 These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me.
45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.
46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Thought For The Day: Admit to impossible and the Lord of the impossible will make it happen! Ask Him for the power and do something to express His love to those people He has put on your agenda…~Amen~ Happy Thursday!!! J It is the second day of spring and a beautiful day if I may say so myself!! We are learning so much on how to eat healthy for life, exercise and striving to live long and strong for the rest of our lives!!! You Are Doing Great Keep Up The Good Work!!!J Exercises For Improving Balance In Seniors And The Elderly Body Circles Step 1 •Stand with feet shoulder width apart, hands at sides. Step 2 •Keeping your body straight, slowly sway in a circle. •Continue for 1 minute. Breathing: •Breathe normally, in through the nose and out through the mouth. Tips: •If you get dizzy, stop. •Keep your body straight. •Don't hold your breath. •Hold your arms out to the sides if you need more support. Take it up a notch: •Bring your feet closer together for a more challenging workout. •Hold a sheet of paper with both hands and read while swaying. You did it! Good job. Remember to practice every day. This is very important. Remember that practice makes....permanent!! So don't practice lying around, or else you'll get good at it! Spring has sprung and here are some helpful tips: Tips for Sufferers of Seasonal Allergies One of the most commonly overlooked health conditions is one that 40 million fellow Americans share, allergies. Many of us that live in seasonal areas love the changing weather. We welcome spring by opening all our windows to enjoy the ‘fresh air’. Unfortunately, we may also be letting in allergens. Allergens cause a person’s body to overreact, causing allergies. Allergy symptoms include sneezing, itchy nose, scratchy throat and watery eyes. Some people’s allergies get so bad they have to skip work, school or other community responsibilities. 35 million Americans suffer with allergies and allergic disease is ranked the 6th leading cause of chronic disease in the United States. There are many methods available for treating allergies. The professional route is to get a referral from your primary care doctor to see a board-certified allergist-immunologist. This allergy specialist will test you to identify exactly what your allergic to and then prescribe either medication or immunotherapy (series of shots) to manage, or in some cases eliminate, the effects of your allergy. Many other people who suffer from allergies opt for over-the-counter medications to treat their symptoms in search of a quick-fix, but some of these medications can make you feel drowsy and run down. Whenever taking any medication you should always speak to your pharmacist or other healthcare provider prior, even if it is only an over-the-counter. Sometimes it is best to avoid these medications and try changing diet and/or lifestyle to help balance the immune system to help treat the symptoms. Urgent or retail clinics staffed by clinicians can often bridge the convenience gap between wanting treatment for your symptoms immediately and waiting a long time to get an appointment with an allergy specialist. Retail and urgent care clinics often cater specifically to things like allergies an can give you professional care versus wandering the allergy isle at your local super store. In many cases, these clinics will often loop in your primary care provider of any treatment they give you so that when you do finally get that referral to see the immunologist everyone involved with your care is on the same page. A Healthy Menu For Thursday Stir together 1 cup of low-fat cottage cheese and 1/2 cup of sliced grapes and have with a slice of whole-grain bread topped with 1 tbsp. of peanut butter. Toss with a low-fat, low-calorie dressing. For snacks, try 1/4 cup of chickpeas tossed with chopped cucumber, dill and lemon juice and later, three fresh apricots. http://anitahewitt.blogspot.com/2013/03/food-for-soul-ev-anita-hewitt-32113.html

Just Say No to these 5 Diet Strategies When you work out on an empty stomach, you burn calories from muscle, not fat. It’s important to fuel your body before exercising, because you will avoid losing that oh-so important muscle, and you’ll have more energy to push yourself through your workout at a more intense rate. End result — you get a better workout and burn more fat calories. Just choose your pre-workout meal wisely. Guide to Pre and Post-Workout Meal Planning No matter what your form of exercise, Strength Training or Cardio Training & Conditioning, you always want to “Feed Your Need”! Without the proper fuel, all your fitness efforts (hours in the gym) can become pointless when you don’t feed your tool (the body) properly to match your performance on a daily basis! AM Workout Meal Plan • Pre-workout meal if you can eat early: 1protien, 1 complex carb, 1 simple carb, 16oz water • If you can’t eat early: choose 1 c sports drink, or 8-16oz of caffeinated tea or coffee. Sip water on your way to the gym and continue to drink through your workout. • For optimal recovery: have 1-2 c of sports drink or high-carb recovery drink with 20-30gr of protein powder added immediately after your workout. • Post-workout meal: 1 or 2 complex carbs, 1 protein, 1 simple carb, 16oz water • After an intense workout session = 3:1 ration of carbs to protein to replace depleted glycogen stores and to provide amino acids for muscle repair Midday Workout Meal Plan • Pre-workout snack is essential 1-2 hours before training: 1 simple carb and 1 protein (Supplement Shake) • For Optimal Recovery: have 1-2c of sports drink or high carb recovery drink with 206-30gr of protein powder added immediately after workout • Post workout meal: 1protein, 1 complex carb, protein drink, 16 oz water • To gain mass: pre-workout snack = carb grams = to 1/2 your body weight • After an intense workout session: 3:1 ratio of carbs to protein to replace depleted glycogen stores and to provide amino acids for muscle repair. A Healthy Menu For Tuesday Have two poached eggs on a whole-wheat English muffin with two slices of turkey bacon and a whole orange for breakfast. For lunch, try a sandwich made with two slices of whole grain bread, 2 oz. of all-natural ham, a slice of Swiss cheese, sliced tomatoes and shredded lettuce. Have a plum for dessert. Dinner could be a cup of minestrone soup with a large salad made with 3 cups of romaine lettuce, 1/2 cup chickpeas, 1/4 cup of feta cheese and 1 tsp. of olive oil mixed with 2 tsp. of red wine vinegar. At snack times, have a low-fat string cheese with the other half of the kiwi and a glass of skim milk with one sheet of graham crackers. http://anitahewitt.blogspot.com/2013/03/food-for-soul-ev-anita-hewitt-31913.html

Bryant Hewitt With Farewell Friday. On HHWN

Farewell Friday With HHWN Enjoying A Healthy Lifestyle with Bryant and Anita Hewitt Friday March 8, 2013 Food To Chew On Friday – Abundant Living John 10:10 (NKJV) The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. Thought For The Day: I will claim the four “P’s” of power today: Power, Protection, Provision, Possession On the rain “Farewell Friday,” we are saying farewell to the bad eating habits, the way we look at foods, fried and fast foods…. They are all unhealthy for us!!! And we are replacing it with fresh veggies, chicken, fish, and turkey and you can even have your red meats… it is how you cook it, by grilling, steaming, broiling your foods and it will still have that flavor that you like just without the calories…. You can even use low sodium broth, wine, or even water….just tapping into your creative side there is no limits in the kitchen… just have fun cooking up some healthy ideas….. Happy Cooking with HHWN J Falls In The Elderly Falls in the elderly population are in part due to age-related decline in muscle strength and joint range of motion. Exercises like the clock reach, which add to lower and upper body strength and flexibility, will help in reducing the risk of falls. Below I have made a great balance video that is fun and easy to do. All you need is a chair, comfortable loose fitting clothing, and a pair of smooth bottom shoes to wear so you won't catch your feet. Read on then give it a try. In this exercise we are using the arm and head to destabilize our center of gravity. With our arm extended and positioned to the side and to the rear, we must compensate by altering our ankle strategy on order to not buckle at the knees. This will come in handy during the day when we reach over the stove, up to shelves or when shopping at the supermarket. To decrease the incidence of falls in the elderly we must begin by working on our leg strength, especially at the ankles and hips. This way we can improve our ability to reach to changes in our environment quickly and efficiently. We need to address falls in the elderly daily with a strengthening and conditioning program not only for our legs but also torso, back and neck. Try this exercise below and see how your balance and upper body coordination are fairing. You can do it! The 7 Worst Training Mistakes I’ve Ever Made… 3. I Did a Hard Rotational Stretch as a Warm-Up This was one of the most painful things I’ve ever done in the gym, and not in a good way. I was warming up on the incline barbell bench press and decided I need to loosen up my lower back and core. While sitting on the seat (lower body basically anchored in place), I turned my upper body, gripped the bench and pulled my torso around…until I heard a loud “POP” and my lower back spammed. I had just blown out a section of my quadrates labarum, which is a small muscle that is just to one side of the spinal column. It was like getting stabbed in the back with a hot fireplace poker. I could hardly move…and I still had to walk home from the gym! Instead of 10 minutes, it took me almost an hour, and I had to wear a weight belt cinched up in order to not collapse from the pain (I had to wear it to sleep that night, too). To this very day, when I get lean enough, you can still see three little round “buttons” where the muscle detached from the bone and bunched up. I’m VERY lucky in that it didn’t completely destroy my ability to train my lower back…they were just small pops, but man, did they hurt. The Lesson: Don’t do hard stretching as a warm-up. Use general movements to get the muscles warm and the blood flowing, progressing to more specific movements that target the exercise you’re going to be working with first. You can also include some mobility work in your warm-up. Just don’t do hard stretching when your muscles aren’t warm or you might just pay the price! A Healthy Menu For Friday Have a cup of cooked oatmeal topped with 1/2 cup of skim milk, 2 tbsp. of raisins and 1 tsp. of brown sugar. For lunch, stir 1/4 cup of salsa into 1 cup of nonfat, plain Greek yogurt. Use as a dip for one serving of baked tortilla chips, 1 cup carrot sticks and a sliced red pepper. At dinner, make a mock pizza with a whole-wheat English muffin, 1/4 cup of marinara sauce and 1 1/2 oz. of part-skim mozzarella cheese. Toss a large green salad on the side with low-calorie dressing. Snacks for this day are 3 cups of air-popped popcorn topped with 1 tbsp. of shredded Parmesan cheese and a glass of red wine or a whole apple. http://anitahewitt.blogspot.com/2013/03/food-for-soul-ev-anita-hewitt-3813.html

Bryant Hewitt With Tides of Life. With HHWN

Tuesday, The Tides of Life With HHWN Enjoying A Healthy Lifestyle with Bryant and Anita Hewitt Tuesday March 5, 2013 Food To Chew On: Tuesday – Free Indeed John 8:36 (NKJV) Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. Thought For The Day: What distorted ideas of life keep people from being free? Am I less than person Christ wants me to be because of any of these debilitating ideas? Along this life of ours we are going to go through the “Tides of Life.” Some of the storms we will sale through and some looks like there is no way we are going to make it … but God brings us through each and every one of them …. And if you are in a storm right now just call on the Name of Jesus… and it is the same way when we are learning a new way of living for life…it looks like a storm but guest what you can make it…if you want to live.. so the question is how bad do you want it? And only you can make that choice, so choose wisely!!! J Fall Prevention In The Elderly Single Limb Stance Purpose of this exercise •This exercise will help train your brain to become more aware of just where your center of gravity is located. •It will also strengthen your ankles and hips for improved stability. How to do it: Step 1 •Stand with feet together and arms at sides. Step 2 •Lift one leg and balance on the other. •Hold for 10 seconds, then repeat with the other leg. Breathing: •Keep breathing normally, in through the nose and out through the mouth.. Tips: •Use a chair as a place to not only perform seated exercise but also to hold on to while standing. Hold on with your finger, one hand or two hands. •Don't close your eyes or hold your breath. •Raise your arms out to the sides if you need more balance. Take it up a notch: •Lift chest and look straight ahead to make standing more challenging. •Try adding a one pound ankle weight to one ankle. 7 Signs You’re an Emotional Eater To contrast true physical hunger that fuels our body with nourishing food: 1.The hunger comes on gradually 2.You feel it below the neck (belly hunger) 3.Occurs several hours after your last meal 4.Can be satisfied with an apple, carrot or any number of foods 5.You stop eating when you are full 6.You feel satisfied after eating 7.Does not leave you feeling guilty or ashamed So where do you fall in your eating response? Are you an emotional eater or do you eat to fuel your body? Life comes at us every day with all of its demands, so having a toolbox of self-soothing techniques is important to our health. How do you soothe yourself and relax? Bryant Hewitt With Mindful Monday

Monday, March 4, 2013Mindful Monday With HHWN Enjoying A Healthy Lifestyle with Bryant and Anita Hewitt Monday March 4, 2013 Food To Chew On: Monday – Truth that Liberates John 8:31-32 (NKJV) Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Thought For The Day: Make a list of any area in your life where you do not feel free. Now, as you abide in Christ and His Spirit abides in you, ask Him to guide you in writing out how you are to think about each of these areas in the light of the Truth He has given in His promises. Be specific. Than act and feel free. Good Morning, Mindful Monday…. Wow that is a mouth full J however that is so true… we must be mindful about our bodies, the foods we eat, we must get enough rest and some old fashion R&R, and let’s not forget to exercise!!! J Have a Wonderful Day with HHWN!!! Elderly Balance Exercises For Seniors to Help Prevent Falls Fall Prevention In The Elderly Good balance is important for fall prevention in seniors and the elderly. It requires the ability to keep your center of gravity over your ankles when standing and walking. Below I have made a great balance video that is fun and easy to do. All you need is a chair, comfortable loose fitting clothing, and a pair of smooth bottom shoes to wear so you won't catch your feet. Read on then give it a try. Activities that work on stressing our balance systems will add to our overall safety at home. Balance and mobility exercises are essential in any older adult exercise program. As we go about our day we call on our body to keep us upright, maintain our equilibrium, anticipate obstacles and react to them, speed up and slow down, bend over and reach around corners. These all require a flexible body, good posture, and continued awareness of maintaining our center of gravity over our base of support which is usually over out ankles. Below are some excellent balance activities to begin your better balance. This is one of the most simple standing exercises. Standing on one leg is an exercise that can be practiced anywhere you have a chair or counter to hold on to. This exercise will strengthen your ankles and hips, which are vital in keeping us stable. Fall prevention in the elderly and seniors is increasing in awareness especially in assisted care and independent living facilities. The more we can practice stressing our balance systems, the more stable we will become. 7 Signs You’re an Emotional Eater Your boss was a bear today and you are buried under work that will take you days to finish. All you can think about is getting home and chilling out with a pizza and some beer. Or maybe you and your husband had a nasty argument. You both said hurtful things in anger. You’ve had time to calm down and think it over. Now the tears are flowing and that bowl of ice cream is so soothing. We all soothe ourselves occasionally with food; that’s why it’s called comfort food. Although food’s main purpose is to provide nutrition to our bodies, at a very young age, we learn that food can make us feel better. But when we start using food as the sole comforter, rather than other healthier techniques or strategies, weight gain can be the result. The following 7 signs will help you to identify if you are eating in response to emotional hunger, rather than physical hunger 1. The hunger comes on suddenly 2. You feel it above the neck (mouth hunger) 3. Unrelated to mealtime- you may have eaten your last meal an hour before 4. You crave specific foods, especially comfort foods like ice cream, cookies or pizza. Carrots or an apple just won’t do 5. It’s tough to fill up 6. Even if you overeat, you don’t feel satisfied 7. You often have feelings of shame or guilt after eating A Healthy Menu For Monday Start with a serving of high-fiber, low-sugar cereal, 1 cup of skim milk and 1 cup of raspberries. Thought For The Day: Drop That Stone!!! On the Beautiful Friday, we are getting ready for a wonderful weekend. Please remember to try to eat healthier and if you plan your meals you can stay on track.. What I had found out is if you write down what you are eating and be truthful you can really see how much we really eat…. Wow it will blow your mind!! J So let’s make up our mind to move more and to eat less… Have a Wonderful Weekend!! Bryant and Anita Hewitt J Elderly Balance Exercises For Seniors to Help Prevent Falls Balancing exercises are challenging! Don't try these senior and elderly balance exercises alone if you are uncomfortable about these exercises or are unsure of your ability to complete them. Start slowly with the first exercise until you become used to the new experience of stressing your balance system. It is not a race to the finish. You may be comfortable only performing the first few balance exercises and not be comfortable doing the moving and walking exercises. That is ok! Really! Never do something that you are nervous about by yourself. Much better to have a helpful, stable person around to make you more confident and secure. What else are family members for? 6 Creative Ways to Get Children Excited about Healthy Eating 5. Do a cooking competition If you have multiple children then arrange a week of cooking competitions where the most healthy meal wins… This is a great way to not only getting them thinking healthily, but also to get them excited and encouraged to make things healthy too. Most children love having a friendly competition against their siblings, but if your child is an only child then don’t worry you can still do this one! Just have them compete against you instead! It’s a really fun way of getting them to actively think about what they’re eating in a fun way.
