Exercises For Improving Balance In Seniors And The Elderly
Exercises for improving balance are vital in helping seniors and the elderly reduce the risk of falling. For generalized balance decline, I recommend performing balance exercises on a daily basis.
Below I have made a great balance video that is fun and easy to do. All you need is comfortable loose fitting clothing, and a pair of smooth bottom shoes to wear so you won't catch your feet. Read on then give it a try.
Working on our static or "standing" balance with exercises like body circles below will greatly assist in increasing our stability.
An important component of exercises for improving balance is your ability to integrate your sensory information as you go about your day. This information comes from your eyes, vestibular apparatus in your ears, and your somatosensory system which allows you to know where your body is in space.
Do It Yourself Exercise Programs
The first thing to know is that any good functional exercise program includes a mixture of just 7 key movements. They are
1. Squat
2. Lunge
3. Bend
4. Twist
5. Push
6. Pull
7. Gait (walk/run)
Gait – Great for a full-body workout, for cardio work, and for improved co-ordination and posture
Resistance – not necessary, can contribute to poor posture and back/neck tension
As funny as it sounds, many people have no idea how to walk (let alone run) properly. While there is much to be said about technique that can’t possibly enter this article, there’s one really great tip that you can put to use right away. Simply imagine a column running straight down the centre of your body. From the top of the head to the soles of your feet. When you walk or run, visualize either side of your body twisting evenly around that column. Keep your belly lightly drawn in, your shoulders relaxed, and your head high. Sounds too simple to do anything, doesn’t it? Just give it a go – I promise you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
A Healthy Menu For
Tuesday
The American Academy of Family Physicians recommends low-fat and fat-free dairy foods as part of a nutrient-rich diet. A calcium-rich breakfast includes 2 slices whole-wheat toast with 1 slice of low-fat cheese, a medium banana and 1 cup skim milk. A turkey sandwich--3 oz. of lean deli meat turkey on 2 slices of whole wheat bread with lettuce, tomato and mustard--with 1 oz. of pretzels and cucumber slices makes an easy lunch. Twenty almonds are a nutrient-rich afternoon snack. A heart-healthy dinner may consist of 4 oz. grilled salmon, 1 cup couscous, 1 cup steamed carrots and a tossed salad with low-fat salad dressing. A 1/2 cup of light ice cream is a 150-calorie evening snack.

1 Kings 15:25-26
King James Version (KJV)
25 And Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned over Israel two years.
26 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.
Bryant Hewitt Shares Salvation Prayer..
Salvation Prayer
Dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness.
I believe that your only begotten Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin.
You said in Your Holy Word, Romans 10:9 that if we confess the Lord our God and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we shall be saved.
Right now I confess Jesus as the Lord of my soul. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved.
Thank you Jesus for your unlimited grace which has saved me from my sins. I thank you Jesus that your grace never leads to license, but rather it always leads to repentance. Therefore Lord Jesus transform my life so that I may bring glory and honor to you alone and not to myself.
Thank you Jesus for dying for me and giving me eternal life.
Amen.

2 Kings 4
King James Version (KJV)
4 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
3 Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
4 And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.
6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.
8 And it fell on a day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as oft as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.
9 And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passeth by us continually.
10 Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither.
11 And it fell on a day, that he came thither, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.
12 And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him.
13 And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, thou hast been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for thee? wouldest thou be spoken for to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.
14 And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she hath no child, and her husband is old.
15 And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door.
16 And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, thou shalt embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, thou man of God, do not lie unto thine handmaid.
17 And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.
18 And when the child was grown, it fell on a day, that he went out to his father to the reapers.
19 And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother.
20 And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.
21 And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.
22 And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray thee, one of the young men, and one of the asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again.
23 And he said, Wherefore wilt thou go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.
24 Then she saddled an ass, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not thy riding for me, except I bid thee.
25 So she went and came unto the man of God to mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is that Shunammite:
26 Run now, I pray thee, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with thee? is it well with thy husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well:
27 And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: and the Lord hath hid it from me, and hath not told me.
28 Then she said, Did I desire a son of my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?
29 Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up thy loins, and take my staff in thine hand, and go thy way: if thou meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute thee, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.
30 And the mother of the child said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And he arose, and followed her.
31 And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked.
32 And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.
33 He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them twain, and prayed unto the Lord.
34 And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.
35 Then he returned, and walked in the house to and fro; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
36 And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up thy son.
37 Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.
38 And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.
39 And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not.
40 So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof.
41 But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot.
42 And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.
43 And his servitor said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the Lord, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof.
44 So he set it before them, and they did eat, and left thereof, according to the word of the Lord.

If you do then all of your hard work is going to waste and we don’t want that ….

Bend – Great for your back (lower and upper), shoulders, butt, hamstrings, abs*
Resistance: as above, or you can hold a barbell or an exercise ball in front of you
A forward bending movement. Start with tall posture and your feet around hip width apart. Bend your knees about 15 degrees, and then stick your butt out. Keeping your back straight, bend your torso forward until it reaches around 45 degrees. If you hold weights in front of you, they should stay very close to your thighs. Once your weights or fists reach knee level, drop your butt down an extra 2-3 inches (a mini squat). Stand back up in one smooth movement, driving your hips forward and your shoulders back.

Leg Muscle Weakness Exercise
Leg muscle weakness is a critical factor in maintaining balance in the elderly . By performing exercises that are designed to improve strength in the ankles and hips, like knee marching, you can increase your dynamic balance and thereby reduce the risk of falling.
Below I have made a great balance video that is fun and easy to do. All you need is a chair, comfortable loose fitting clothing, and a pair of smooth bottom shoes to wear so you won't catch your feet. Read on then give it a try.
Strong hips, knees and ankles are required to archive a better state of balance. Lifting your legs up and down works on the ankles, quadriceps muscles and hips. An overall great leg strengthener and balance workout.
Do It Yourself Exercise Programs
The first thing to know is that any good functional exercise program includes a mixture of just 7 key movements. They are
1. Squat
2. Lunge
3. Bend
4. Twist
5. Push
6. Pull
7. Gait (walk/run)
Twist – Great for your core and lower back, especially your oblique (side tummy) muscles
Resistance – an exercise ball or gym cables are ideal, as is an exercise band, which is basically a piece of rubber tubing about 3 feet long.
Remember that old dance ‘the twist’? The twist pattern as part of your workout is kinda similar. It’s all about getting movement through your spine. This in turn helps to activate your belly muscles and is great for toning your entire midriff. Loosely clasp your hands in front of you at chest height, or hold a weighted object at chest height. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. With your navel drawn in, start to twist your torso. Your elbows should move side to side as you do this, but the movement is driven from the core. You can pivot on each foot as you move. Progress the movement by holding the weight further away from your body.
A Healthy Menu for

For breakfast select one lowfat blueberry waffle, 2 tbsp. sugar-free syrup, ½ cup fresh raspberries and 1 cup nonfat milk. Enjoy coffee or tea sweetened with a sugar substitute, too. Your lunch meal includes 2 scrambled eggs, 1 oz. low fat cheese, 1 slice of toasted whole grain bread and 1 tsp. soft margarine and ½ cup fresh pineapple. For dinner, choose 3 oz. broiled salmon, ½ quinoa, ½ cup broccoli and cauliflower mix. Have 4 oz. low fat yogurt with ½ cup sliced strawberries for dessert.

Falls In Elderly and Senior
Falls in elderly occur with 35 to 45 percent of seniors each year. This is generally due to age-related declines in our reaction times, along with reduced strength and flexibility in our muscles.
Below I have made a great balance video that is fun and easy to do. All you need is a chair, comfortable loose fitting clothing, and a pair of smooth bottom shoes to wear so you won't catch your feet. Read on then give it a try.
Other causes can be due to the environment and activities around the home. I can't tell you how many times I am rehabbing someone for a broken wrist or arm because they fell in the back yard while working in the garden.
It's the hoses fault, don't you know! That silly hose is always in the darnedest spot. (Usually across the sidewalk!)
What can we do? To help with falls in elderly try balance exercises that work on strengthening our legs and arms and increase our range of motion. In that way we will help reduce the risk of falls.
Do It Yourself Exercise Programs
Squat, Lunge, Bend, Twist, Push, Pull and Gait! These are the 7 basic movements that are incorporated into every effect exercise program, and are the building blocks to your own custom workout. There tons of pre designed exercise programs that claim to be the best, and will work for anyone no matter who you are.
The trouble is that they rarely do because people don’t want to stick to the strict regimented exercise program. The main reason people tend to not stick to exercise programs like that is because they are afraid to change even the slightest part of the equation. The rationality of it is that changing it will cause it to not work. So instead of using a pre-fabricated exercise program, learn the basics of designing your own. This way you can make changes as they are needed while making sure you are getting the full work out promised in the “professionally designed” exercise programs.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a personal trainer at your beck and call every day of the week? Okay, maybe not nice as such, but certainly useful. You’d no longer have any excuse for delaying regular exercise and dusty workout gear would be a thing of the past. In fact, you’d be a fitness fanatic in no time!
A Healthy Menu For
Tuesday
By following the Health and Human Service Department's "Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension" program, you will eat well and help lower your blood pressure. Begin your day with 3/4 cup of bran cereal with a banana in low-fat milk, a slice of toast and cup of orange juice. For lunch, eat a chicken salad sandwich on whole wheat with Dijon mustard, a cup of salad with a teaspoon of low-fat Italian dressing and a cup of fruit cocktail. Dinner consists of three ounces of eye of the round beef, two tablespoons of fat-free beef gravy, a cup of green beans and a small baked potato. Snack on unsalted almonds, raisins and a half cup of nonfat fruit yogurt during the day.

Falls In Elderly & Seniors
What can we do? To help with falls in elderly try balance exercises that work on strengthening our legs and arms and increase our range of motion. In that way we will help reduce the risk of falls.
In our video below we work on standing on one leg while at the same time introducing arm movement. In this exercise we are picking up the pace little with a more advance exercise. Remember with this exercise it is important to always start by placing a chair in front of you for support until you are comfortable without one.
I think it is a good practice to have a chair to hold on to even when your balance improves. The last place you want to be is on the kitchen floor.
Remember, "practice makes..... permanent!". So don't practice sitting in a chair, unless you want to get good at sitting in a chair. Get up and challenge your balance system. You can do it.
Every day make it a point to practice a little more to prevent falls in elderly people. Slowly, more switches will turn on in your brain and your balance will improve. You may not even hold on to that counter as you go by. Think of it!
Do It Yourself Exercise Programs
But you don’t have your very own in-pocket trainer for every day of the week, so there’s no danger of having to follow through on those shape-up promises you’ve made yourself, is there now?
Unless, that is, you really and truly want to!
You see, it’s not impossibly hard for you to design your own fail-safe exercise program. It might not be as personalized as working with a personal trainer, and it won’t be able to teach you the thousands of interesting progressions and variations that a top-dollar session will, but it sure as heck beats sitting on your butt or relying on boring cardio machines day-in and day-out.
The first thing to know is that any good functional exercise program includes a mixture of just 7 key movements. They are:
1. Squat
2. Lunge
3. Bend
4. Twist
5. Push
6. Pull
7. Gait (walk/run)
By functional, I mean a workout that replicates the type of activity your body was designed for. Hint: this does not include sitting on a weight machine with most of your muscles snoozing happily and your core doing jack-all. If you think about it, every movement you can think of in day-to-day life, whether it’s as a parent, a laborer, a farmer, an athlete, or even a hunter, can be defined by the above 7 movements.
A good program simply puts them together in a way that is appropriate for your strength, fitness, flexibility, coordination, and stability capabilities. Of course this can become a very complex process but it’s also one that we can easily simplify and get you working on right away. The most important thing is for you to understand is the ‘base’ level of each movement.
A Healthy Menu For
Wednesday
Start the day with two scrambled eggs, a slice of whole-wheat toast with a teaspoon of trans fat-free margarine and a seasonal fruit. At lunch, try a cup of minestrone soup with a side salad topped with a tablespoon of low-fat dressing. Finish your hump day with one-and-one-third cups of beef stroganoff and a cup of cooked broccoli and cauliflower topped with a tablespoon of shredded cheese.

Do It Yourself Exercise Programs
The first thing to know is that any good functional exercise program includes a mixture of just 7 key movements. They are:
1. Squat
2. Lunge
3. Bend
4. Twist
5. Push
6. Pull
7. Gait (walk/run)
Step One: Know The Basic 7 Movements
Squat – Great for your butt, legs (front and back), abs
Resistance – body weight is fine to start with, but you can also hold dumbells by your sides or at shoulder level.
A sitting-down movement performed with feet approximately shoulder-width apart, your back straight (on a 45 degree forward tilt) your torso elevated, and your gaze straight ahead. Heels should stay on the floor (it’s okay for your toes to turn out), and you should ideally sit-down until your butt reaches knee-level. Using your heels to push, return to fully upright. You’ve now performed one ‘rep’. A ‘set’ is a designated number of ‘reps’.
A Healthy Menu For
Thursday
For breakfast on Thursday, go back to either whole grain or bran cold cereal with one-half cup of skim milk and a half a banana. Try vegetarian chili for lunch. Finish your day with three ounces of baked chicken breast with the skin removed, a half cup of wild or brown rice, a half cup of cooked carrots and peas.

Bryant Hewitt With Psalm 91
Psalm 91
King James Version (KJV)
91 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Former To The Lattter. Bryant Hewitt Message Service and Scriptures
7And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, said the LORD of hosts. 8The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, said the LORD of hosts. 9The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, said the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, said the LORD of hosts.
Psalm 85:8 I will listen to what God the LORD says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants-- but let them not turn to folly.
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
Isaiah 60:7 All Kedar's flocks will be gathered to you, the rams of Nebaioth will serve you; they will be accepted as offerings on my altar, and I will adorn my glorious temple.
Isaiah 66:12 For this is what the LORD says: "I will extend peace to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream; you will nurse and be carried on her arm and dandled on her knees.
Haggai 1:8 Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored," says the LORD.
Haggai 2:3 Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing?
Zechariah 2:5 And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,' declares the LORD, 'and I will be its glory within.'

Food To Chow On:
Saturday – The Gift of Prophecy
Numbers 11:29 (NKJV)
Then Moses said to him, “Are you zealous for my sake? Oh, that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!”
Thought For The Day:
Being prophetic without love is insensitivity; loving without being prophetic is ineffective.

Exercises For Balance For Seniors And The Elderly
Exercises for balance for seniors and the elderly are vital as we age. Age-related declines in our balance are in part due to muscle and joint range of motion loss, slower reflexes, reduced visual sensitivity, and cognitive changes.
Below I have made a great balance video that is fun and easy to do. All you need is a chair, comfortable loose fitting clothing, and a pair of smooth bottom shoes to wear so you won't catch your feet. Read on then give it a try.
Exercises like the eye tracking exercise below are important measures we can take to help offset these declines.
Dizziness can affect over half of people over 75. Working on head movements using the exercises below will help support your ability to look around the room when going about your day. If you are unable to perform this exercise without getting dizzy, then stop.
Your doctor can tell you more about your dizziness. If you suspect a more serious problem like vertigo, orthostatic hypotension or drug interactions, definitely check in with your doctor.
When trying the exercises for balance below, hold on to a chair at first using your non-dominant hand. Use your dominant hand to perform the movements. Once you feel more secure, then try letting go of your hand briefly, then for longer periods. You'll get it sooner or later!
If you get dizzy when performing these exercises for balance for seniors and the elderly, make sure you sit down, get a drink of water, and try to look straight ahead at eye level until you start feeling better.
Navy Seal Workout
Adopt a Full-body workout Method
Seals need to possess not only impressive amounts of agility and stamina, but masterful command of the body. They need to be light on their feet and to have conquered their own weight and center of gravity. Thousands of pushups, sit-ups, and pull ups is great, especially with perfect form and full range of motion, but since most people in the gym aren’t preparing to visit warzones, get creative and incorporate two other exercises into each.
For example grab some exercise ingredients like burpees, box jumps, dumbbell rows, and dumbbell presses and swirl them together in a fitness cauldron. All of those as one is a pretty intense full-body workout; now add five pushups into each rep. In terms of building functional strength and muscle endurance 20 of those would feel like 500 pushups, but to nearly every muscle group in the body.
A Healthy Menu For
Saturday and Sunday
Saturday
Begin the weekend with a slice of whole-wheat toast with a tablespoon of peanut butter, a cup of nonfat fruit yogurt and an orange. For lunch, have a whole-grain tuna sandwich with tomato and lettuce, a cup of low-fat cottage cheese and an apple. Spice up dinner with veggie fajitas and one-and-a-half cups of spinach salad with nonfat dressing.
Sunday
For breakfast on Sunday, eat two pancakes topped with a half cup of frozen berries and the applesauce, maple syrup mix from Friday. For lunch, try a cup of cooked whole-wheat pasta with mixed vegetables tossed with a tablespoon low-fat Italian dressing and two tablespoons of Parmesan cheese. For dinner, try baked chicken nuggets, a cup of green beans and a small baked potato with two teaspoons of trans fat-free margarine.
