1 Kings 2:1–3

David’s Instructions to Solomon
2 Now athe days of David drew near that he should die, and he 1charged Solomon his son, saying: 2 b“I go the way of all the earth; cbe strong, therefore, and prove yourself a man. 3 And keep the charge of the Lord your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may dprosper in all that you do and wherever you turn

Proverbs 4:3–9

3 When I was my father’s son,
bTender and the only one in the sight of my mother,
4 cHe also taught me, and said to me:
“Let your heart retain my words;
dKeep my commands, and live.
5 eGet wisdom! Get understanding!
Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
6 Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you;
fLove her, and she will keep you.
7 gWisdom is the principal thing;
Therefore get wisdom.
And in all your getting, get understanding.
8 hExalt her, and she will promote you;
She will bring you honor, when you embrace her.
9 She will place on your head ian ornament of grace;
A crown of glory she will deliver to you.

Proverbs 1:8–9

Shun Evil Counsel
8 fMy son, hear the instruction of your father,
And do not forsake the law of your mother;
9 For they will be a ggraceful ornament on your head,
And chains about your neck.

Proverbs 1:10–14

10 My son, if sinners entice you,
hDo not consent.
11 If they say, “Come with us,
Let us ilie in wait to shed blood;
Let us lurk secretly for the innocent without cause;
12 Let us swallow them alive like 3Sheol,
And whole, jlike those who go down to the Pit;
13 We shall find all kinds of precious 4possessions,
We shall fill our houses with 5spoil;
14 Cast in your lot among us,
Let us all have one purse”—

Proverbs 2:1–9

The Value of Wisdom
2 My son, if you receive my words, And atreasure my commands within you,
2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding;
3 Yes, if you cry out for discernment,
And lift up your voice for understanding,
4 bIf you seek her as silver,
And search for her as for hidden treasures;
5 cThen you will understand the fear of the Lord,
And find the knowledge of God.
6 dFor the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 He stores up sound wisdom for the upright;
eHe is a shield to those who walk uprightly;
8 He guards the paths of justice,
And fpreserves the way of His saints.
9 Then you will understand righteousness and justice,
Equity and every good path.
